Scissor Lift Truck

A scissor lift truck is a mobile platform that lifts goods or workers straight up and down. It is built from a set of crossed steel arms that open plus close like a pair of scissors - the arms push a flat deck upward or lower it again. Warehouses building sites and factories use the truck to place pallets onto racks, to take items down from shelves but also to reach lights or pipes for repair. A hinged gate closes the only opening in the guardrail - a chain across the gap is common on older machines. A hand pump bolted to the base unit lets the operator bring the platform down slowly if the battery dies. A beacon on the control box flashes but also a horn gives a short blast every time the machine moves or elevates. Tilt sensors in electric scissor lift trucks watch the angle between the machine and the ground every moment. The driver receives instant notice of instability, a benefit on rough floors and the warning supports correct habits. Scissor lifts are sorted by how they move, how they are powered plus where they work. OSHA treats them as scaffolds - the key rules are guardrails, fall protection, load limits and trained operators. A scissor lift will normally give ten to fifteen years of service if it receives correct maintenance, but the exact figure depends on how hard it works and where it works.
