(211 products available)A biogas plant is a facility that turns organic waste - animal manure, leftover food and plant remains - into a burnable gas. The conversion happens in a closed tank that contains no oxygen. Inside the tank, microbes eat the waste and release a gas that is mostly methane and carbon dioxide plus small amounts of hydrogen, nitrogen but also hydrogen sulfide. Once the gas is captured, it serves as fuel for stoves, heaters, engines or vehicles. The plant has five main parts - waste enters through a pipe or chute. It then drops into the digester, a sealed chamber where the microbes work. The gas rises into a separate storage vessel. After the microbes finish, the leftover slurry - called digestate - flows out through another pipe and can be spread on fields as fertilizer.
