A refrigerant air dryer is a specific type of compressed air dryer that is used to remove moisture from compressed air, which always contains water. Refrigerated air dryers operate with a similar principle to domestic refrigerators or home air conditioning systems. The compressed air is cooled in an air-to-refrigerant heat exchanger to about 35°F, a temperature where the moisture condenses and is drained off. The basic function of the air dryer is to remove moisture from the air by cooling it with a refrigerant. Thus, the water vapor is condensed, and the air can be compressed. The result is dry compressed air, which can be used in compressed air equipment without causing any damage.
