3M Scotchcast Flame-Retardant Electrical Insulating Resin 2131 is a two-part, semi-flexible polyurethane resin designed for electrical insulation and mechanical protection of cable joints, particularly in rugged, flame-retardant applications like mining and portable cables. Key Features and Specifications Composition: A two-part, liquid-type polyurethane resin that cures at room temperature. Safety: It is flame-retardant and has a high flash point, which prevents fire hazards. It is also MSHA approved for mining applications and RoHS compliant. Durability: The cured resin is tough, yet semi-flexible, and offers excellent resistance to impact, thermal shock, mechanical shock, moisture, and atmospheric corrosion. It is also resistant to saltwater solutions. Adhesion: It exhibits good adhesion properties, bonding to itself and most modern cable jackets. Electrical Properties: It has a high dielectric strength, providing very good electrical insulation for applications up to 1 kV (1000 volts). Curing: It features a low gel point rating to ensure a consistent cure at room temperature. Gel time is approximately 17 minutes at 23 °C (73 °F), with a full cure taking 16 to 24 hours at 21 °C (70 °F). Operating Temperature: It can withstand a continuous temperature of up to 90 °C (194 °F) and an overload temperature of up to 130 °C (266 °F).
