Abscisic acid is a hormone present in plants that plays a vital role in the growth and regulation of different processes in plants. It controls various processes such as aging of leaf, plant dormancy, and seed germination. Abscisic acid is a kind of conserved hormone with extensive biological functions. Exogenous abscisic acid can pass the blood-brain barrier, and has potential to regulate the learning and memory. Abscisic acid improves learning and memory by anti-inflammation and promotion of synaptic plasticity. As previously mentioned, there is more than one higher-level function of abscisic acid besides its immediate function of inhibiting cell division.
