An air cooled condenser (ACC) is a direct dry cooling system where steam is condensed inside air-cooled finned tubes. The cool ambient air flow outside the finned tubes is what removes heat and defines the functionality of an ACC. An air cooled condenser (ACC) is a direct dry cooling system where steam is condensed inside air-cooled finned tubes.In air-cooled condensers, condenser heat is rejected directly to the ambient air. Thus, the condensing temperature is a function of the ambient air dry-bulb temperature. The obvious advantage of air-cooled condensers relative to water-cooled condensers is that cooling water is not needed.Air cooled condensers are more flexible than water cooled condensers. Air cooled condensers required less maintenance than water cooled condensers. It does not produce more cooling than water cooled condensers. Installation cost is comparatively less than water cooled condensers.Air-cooled condensers push or pull air around a series of finned metal tubes. These tubes are full of hot gasses, which the air cools, causing the vapor to form a condensate on the tubing that drips into a reservoir or out a drain. The air, now hot, leaves the chiller.The purpose of the condenser is to receive the high-pressure gas from the compressor and convert this gas to a liquid. It does it by heat transfer, or the principle that heat will always move from a warmer to a cooler substance.
