An airless painting gun is the end-point of a high-pressure system that atomizes paint by forcing it through a tiny orifice at extreme pressure ($500$ to $3,500$ psi), rather than using compressed air. This results in a faster application, thicker coats, and a professional-grade finish.

Think of a garden hose: if you put your thumb over the end, the water turns into a spray. An airless gun does this at much higher intensity.

• No Air: Unlike HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) systems, no air mixes with the paint.

• Atomization: The sheer force of the paint hitting the still air at the nozzle "shatters" the liquid into tiny droplets.

• Gun Filter: A small mesh filter inside the handle. It’s the final defense against clogs reaching the tip.

  • Tip: Use a fine mesh (100) for thin stains and a coarse mesh (60) for latex.

• Reversible Tip ("SwitchTip"): If the tip clogs, you simply rotate it $180$°, pull the trigger to blow the clog out, rotate it back, and keep painting.

This is the most critical safety rule: Never put your finger near the tip.

At $3,000$ psi, the paint stream can act like a needle, injecting paint directly through your skin into your bloodstream or tissue. This is a surgical emergency and often looks like a minor cut initially.

Always engage the trigger lock when not actively spraying and use a tip guard.

• The "Move-Then-Pull" Technique: Start moving your arm before you pull the trigger, and keep moving after you release it. This prevents "hot spots" (thick piles of paint) at the start and end of your stroke.

• Overlap: Aim for a 50% overlap on each pass to ensure even thickness.

• Distance: Keep the gun exactly 12 inches from the surface. If you "arc" your wrist, the paint will be thinner at the ends of the stroke.
