Refrigerant grade anhydrous ammonia is a clear, colorless gas or liquid and about 99.95% pure.What is Ammonia Refrigeration. Ammonia refrigeration systems are, as the name implies, a system of refrigeration that uses ammonia. The ammonia is the chemical that is used to absorb the heat from one area, and bring it to another area to dissipate.A liquid absorbent dissolves the refrigerant vapour. This liquid is pumped to the high-pressure level in the desorber or generator, where the refrigerant is separated again from the liquid solution. This is accomplished by heating up the solution to the boiling point so the refrigerant evaporates out of the solution.
