Our apple grading machines can detect internal browning, apples with worm holes, apples which are not overripe and other internal defects.The five grades for apples are U.S. Extra Fancy, U.S. Fancy, U.S. No. 1., U.S. No. 1 Hail, and U.S. Utility. The main difference between grades is the amount of surface area that is allowed to be affected by particular defects, with U.S. Extra Fancy being the most restrictive.“U.S. Fancy” consists of apples of one variety (except when more than one variety is printed on the container) which are mature but not overripe, clean, fairly well formed, and free from decay, internal browning, internal breakdown, soft scald, freezing injury, visible water core, and broken skins.
