During saponification, ester reacts with an inorganic base to produce alcohol and soap.Making soap involves a chemical decomposition of fats and oils into their constituent parts, namely: fatty acids and glycerol. The fatty acids combine with an alkali, usually caustic soda, and the glycerol remains free.Also known as “homemade soap”, handmade soap is soap in its most purest form as intended by its creator many thousand of years ago. Handmade soap can be made from scratch by the cold or hot process methods, using quality vegetable oils and natural ingredients.
