The softener consists of resin beads and a brine tank that uses the existing water supply to regenerate the resin, which cleans and sanitizes hard minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Whole-house water softeners remove hard mineral buildup that can damage pipes, hot water heaters and appliances. The softer water also helps reduce soap scum and produce sudsy laundry without detergent.
