Polystyrene is made in a process known as suspension polymerization. After styrene is produced by combining ethylene and benzene, it is merged with water and a mucilaginous substance to form droplets of polystyrene.Thermocol is a light and cellular plastic material used for sound and heat insulation of ceiling, walls, refrigerators and for air conditioning of the buildings. It is soft, light, strong and durable having compressive strength in the range of 11.7 to 14.4 N/mm2.Thermocol is a plastic; is 100% recyclable and has a high value to recyclers. But it is 95% air and is a low weight – high volume (large space required) plastic waste product which making it expensive to collect, store and transport.
