Water softening methods normally are one of the followings.Soda lime treatment is a method that uses sodium and calcium hydroxides (sodium carbonate and slaked lime) to remove scale. They store these minerals in two tanks, one solution tank and another lime tank. The lime water solution from the lime tank goes through pipes to be sprayed into the water stream while they are mixed together with sodium bicarbonate solution stored in the solution tank. When they meet each other, calcium and magnesium ions in the water will be exchanged for sodium ions in the solution so that they both become water soluble and can be easily removed later on by flushing it through a second calcite filter stage. Water softeners are used to remove calcium and magnesium ions from water. These two minerals can cause water to feel stiff and look cloudy. Hard water can also upset the pH balance of the water, making it harder to get soap suds and cause itchy, dry skin. A water softener collects hardness minerals within its conditioning tank, and from time to time flushes them away to drain. Ion exchangers are often used for water softening. When an ion exchange is applied for water softening, it will replace the calcium and magnesium ions in the water with other ions, such as sodium or potassium. The exchanger 1225-0 is added to a reservoir containing a salt of chloride, such as NaCl or KCL (sodium or potassium chloride).
