The G Scan head unit is every bit of the same platform the Kia and Hyundai G Scan is, only expanded to include GM Korean models, and Daewoo, all the popular Japanese automobile companies, and a number of European and American applications. GIT has been building scan tools for the OEM for many years and has broken into the aftermarket with this very smart looking, durable and easy to use touch screen tool. Nothing beats having an OEM level tool in your hands that will give you access to a vast array of vehicles. GIT has had many years to perfect the infrastructure and durability aspect of the head unit, as well as the cables and connectors. Most real technicians know that cables are considered consumable commodities. These cables and connectors are built to take the - of daily use in adverse conditions. Its touch screen is very responsive and the unit has a built in stylus. The button array is easy to manipulate and very well designed for thumbs-only operation on the actual pushbuttons. The screen prompts are fairly easy to tap with a fingertip as well. The display has great adjustability for color and contrast and is easily viewable in sunlight. The prompts are all nice and large, making it easy to manipulate by finger taps or with the built in stylus. As you select the prompt for the vehicle line you want to work with, it becomes apparent that this tool is built on an international platform. This is clear by the use of a fairly diminutive word set for each function. The good news is that it is consistent; the bad news for American technicians is that it is a compromise considering that this tool is built for global use. If you're not one of these kinds of people who expect your diagnostic equipment to cater to an American mindset, you will not have any problems navigating the commands. To sum up the action of the touch screen, this does not operate like a "cheapie" unit. It has a very good feel. We purposely chose to allow the unit to power down while disconnecting from the vehicle, we turned it off in mid-session, ran the battery down, did every possible improper shut down that could be done. Each re-start was clean, crisp and we did not have to do as much as a touch screens calibration. This unit's software is very stable. The meat and potatoes of any diagnostic tool are its functionality. I look at functionality in several modes: Diagnostic (DTC's) and code retrieval, description and information.PID availability and data response.Bi-directional capability.Ability to actually do work (initializations, security re-sets, theft deterrent relearns and key programming, etc.)Information.Screen Capture and the ability to make a quick note on the screen for future reference.Extremely simply menu structure. No more searching the car for ID tags and engine codes. No engine code. Model code or detailed menu selections are required.Supports 24-volt car communication. Anyone who has lit up a VCI module because of high voltage on a DLC on a commercial vehicle or a battery booster turned on knows how great this is. There are many items that this unit will do over and above these areas, but I am an automotive technician. This is what I use my diagnostic tool for.
