A glass tube rotameter is a type of flow meter used to measure the flow rate of liquids and gases. It consists of a tapered glass tube and a float that moves vertically within the tube as the fluid flows through it. Here's how it works: Structure: The rotameter consists of a vertical glass tube, which is wider at the bottom and narrower at the top. The float, usually made of metal or plastic, sits inside the tube. Operation: As fluid enters the bottom of the tube, the flow causes the float to rise due to the force of the fluid against the float. The position of the float is an indicator of the flow rate. The higher the float rises, the greater the flow rate. The flow rate is typically indicated by the position of the float against a scale printed on the glass tube. Scale: The scale is usually marked along the length of the tube. It is calibrated to give the flow rate in specific units (such as liters per minute, gallons per minute, or standard cubic feet per minute). Advantages: Simple and inexpensive Suitable for a wide range of fluids Can be used for both gases and liquids Applications: Glass tube rotameters are commonly used in laboratories, industrial applications, and in situations where accurate and low-cost flow measurement is required. Limitations: The glass tube is fragile and can break if not handled carefully. Accuracy can be affected by changes in temperature and pressure. Not suitable for very high or very low flow rates in some cases.
