It is traditionally made by warming the kulhad (clay mugs) in a tandoor until they are red hot and then pouring the masala chai in them, hence the name Tandoori Chai. The tea froth vigorously like a volcano once poured into the hot kulhad and gets infused with the smoky flavor in the processFor every sickly sweet pumpkin spice latte put forth by international chains, you have a tandoori chai invented from within India and spread along the highways, which have always been a great route to disseminate food productsTandoori Chai is a twist on Kulhad chai. Kulhad is baked in large metal drums called tandoor until it reaches a very high temperature. The milky tea is then poured in the tandoori kulhad until the tea starts sizzling.Tandoor chai is not so different from regular chai. It's only the process of serving it that makes it special. The process begins with making regular chai which is then poured in a large container. Small earthen pots called 'Kullads' are then placed into a Tandoor that works on coaIt was the Mughals who brought the modern tandoor to India. Eventually, portable tandoor was invented during the reign of Jahangir, a Mughal ruler. This oven was carried by a team of cooks every time he travelled.
