Description: Chloroform is a volatile, non-flammable chlorinated solvent widely used in industrial applications. It exhibits excellent solvency for a broad range of organic compounds and is commonly employed as a reaction medium, extraction solvent, and intermediate in chemical synthesis. Stabilized grades may contain a small amount of ethanol or amylene to prevent degradation. Applications: Laboratory solvent for analytical and research useIntermediate in pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing Extraction and purification processes Industrial solvent for resins, fats, oils, and alkaloids Reference material and reagent in controlled laboratory settings Key Properties: High solvency power Low boiling point (~61.2 °C) Immiscible with water; miscible with many organic solvents High density relative to water Handling & Safety: Chloroform is hazardous and must be handled with care. Exposure may cause dizziness, respiratory irritation, and adverse effects on the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system. Suspected carcinogen.
