Product Details
A clariflocculator is a water and wastewater treatment unit that combines the processes of flocculation and clarification (sedimentation) in a single tank. It is commonly used in water treatment plants, sewage treatment plants (STPs), and industrial effluent treatment plants (ETPs) to remove suspended solids, colloidal particles, and other impurities from water. The main purpose of a clariflocculator is to improve water quality by converting fine suspended particles into larger, heavier particles called flocs, which can settle at the bottom of the tank under gravity.A clariflocculator consists of two main sections:Flocculation zone: Where suspended particles combine to form larger flocs.Clarification zone: Where the formed flocs settle down, producing clarified water.A clariflocculator works on the combined principles of coagulation, flocculation, and sedimentation.Coagulation: Chemicals such as alum, ferric chloride, or other coagulants are added to destabilize fine suspended and colloidal particles.Flocculation: Slow mixing encourages the destabilized particles to collide and combine into larger flocs.Sedimentation: The heavier flocs settle at the bottom of the tank due to gravity.Clarification: The clear water separates from the settled sludge and flows out through outlet channels.Central Flocculation ChamberIt is generally located at the centre of the circular tank.Raw water enters this chamber after the addition of coagulant chemicals. It contains slowly rotating paddles or a mechanical mixing arrangement. The paddles provide gentle agitation to promote particle collision and floc formation.Excessive agitation is avoided because it may break the formed flocs.
