Product Details

A laboratory concrete mixer is a device used to thoroughly mix cement, sand, aggregates, and water in the lab to prepare small batches of concrete for testing purposes. These mixers are scaled-down versions of field mixers and are essential for material testing, mix design experiments, and quality control. Laboratory mixers come in two main types: Hand-Operated Mixer Electric / Motor-Driven Mixer Components (Common to Both Types) Mixing Drum / Pan A cylindrical or tilting pan where cement, aggregates, and water are mixed. Made of steel or stainless steel for durability and easy cleaning. Mixing Blades / Paddles Rotating or fixed blades inside the drum that agitate the materials uniformly. Frame / Stand Supports the drum and blades; keeps the mixer stable during operation. Discharge Mechanism Allows easy removal of mixed concrete from the drum. Hand mixers may have a tilting drum, electric mixers may have a gate or lever. Hand-Operated Concrete Mixer Operation: The drum or pan is rotated manually using a handle or crank. Batch Size: Typically 5–25 liters for laboratory purposes. Advantages: Simple, low cost, no electricity required. Easy to maintain and clean. Limitations: Labor-intensive for larger batches. Mixing may be less uniform for stiffer concrete. Electric / Motor-Driven Concrete Mixer Operation: Uses an electric motor to rotate the drum or mixing blades automatically. Batch Size: Typically 20–60 liters for lab use. Advantages: Provides uniform and consistent mixing. Less labor-intensive and faster than hand mixers. Suitable for repeated testing or larger lab batches. Limitations: Requires electric power. Higher initial cost than hand mixers. Working Principle Place cement, sand, coarse aggregate, and water into the mixer drum. For hand mixers, rotate the handle; for electric mixers, switch on the motor. Mixing continues until a uniform, homogeneous concrete mix is obtained (usually 2–5 minutes depending on mix). Discharge the concrete through the tilting drum or discharge gate. Applications Preparing small batches of concrete for lab tests like: Compressive strength Slump test Workability tests Curing and durability experiments Research and mix design studies in civil engineering labs. Advantages Efficient for controlled lab experiments. Ensures uniform and consistent mixing of materials. Portable and easy to use in laboratory setups. Limitations Limited batch size; not suitable for large construction projects. Hand mixers require more effort and time.
