A Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) System is an advanced wastewater treatment technology designed to remove suspended solids (TSS), oils, grease, fats, and other floating or low-density contaminants from industrial and municipal wastewater. The system works on the principle of dissolved air flotation, in which tiny air bubbles are generated and introduced into wastewater to attach themselves to suspended particles, causing them to float to the water surface for easy removal.The DAF system is widely used in industries such as food processing, dairy, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textiles, oil and gas, paper and pulp, automobile manufacturing, and other industrial sectors where wastewater contains high concentrations of suspended solids, oils, and grease.Working PrincipleThe DAF system operates by dissolving air into a portion of treated or recycled water under high pressure using an air saturation tank. This pressurized water is then released into the flotation tank through a pressure-reducing valve, resulting in the formation of millions of microscopic air bubbles.These fine air bubbles attach to suspended particles, oil droplets, and other contaminants present in the wastewater. The particles become lighter and rise to the surface of the flotation tank, forming a floating sludge or scum layer. A mechanical scraper continuously removes the accumulated floating sludge, while the clarified water is collected from the bottom or outlet section of the tank and transferred to the next stage of treatment.Major Components of DAF SystemFlotation Tank: Designed to provide sufficient retention time for air bubbles to attach to contaminants and float them to the surface.Air Saturation System: Dissolves compressed air into recycled water under pressure.Air Compressor: Supplies compressed air required for the flotation process.Recycle Water Pump: Pumps a portion of treated water into the pressurization system.Pressure Release Valve: Releases pressurized water to generate fine microbubbles.Surface Scraper Mechanism: Removes floating sludge, oil, grease, and other accumulated contaminants.Sludge Collection Hopper: Collects the separated floating sludge for further handling and disposal.Chemical Dosing System: Uses coagulants and flocculants, when required, to improve the separation efficiency.Control Panel: Controls and monitors pumps, motors, scraper mechanisms, and other operating parameters.
