Effluent is sewage that has been treated in a septic tank or sewage treatment plant. It is also referred to as “trade effluent” or “wastewater.Effluent Treatment Plants or (ETP) are used by most of the companies in various industries to clean water and remove any toxic and non-toxic materials or chemicals from it so that that water can be reused or released in the environment which will do less harm to the environment.Effluent is defined as liquid waste that is untreated, partially treated, or completely treated.The principle of operation of ETP is Physico-Chemical treatment followed by Polishing Treatments like –Sand Filtration, Activated Charcoal treatment (Adsorption), Ozonisation (Chemical Oxidation), Ultra Filtration (UF), Reverse Osmosis (RO) and evaporation (If required).The major aim of wastewater treatment is to remove as much of the suspended solids as possible before the remaining water, called effluent, is discharged back to the environment. As solid material decays, it uses up oxygen, which is needed by the plants and animals living in the water.
