An escalator is a moving staircase which carries people between floors of a building or structure. It consists of a motor-driven chain of individually linked steps on a track which cycle on a pair of tracks which keep the step tread horizontal.escalator, moving staircase used as transportation between floors or levels in subways, buildings, and other mass pedestrian areas.An escalator is made up of a set of interlocking steps, powered by an electric motor. A pair of chains looped around two pairs of gears rotate to move the steps along while a larger metal structure called a truss encases the entire mechanism to connect the floors.For the dynamic torsional test for the escalator step, we must apply a continuous sinusoidal pulsating load of 500 - 3000 N at a frequency of 5-20 Hz for a minimum of 5x106 cycles to the tread surface center of the escalator step on a steel plate (0.20 m x 0.30 m & at least 25 mm thick).
