An Early Streamer Emission (ESE) lightning arrester is an active lightning protection device designed to intercept lightning strikes earlier than conventional rods. By emitting an upward ionized streamer (a conductive path) before other objects on a structure, it creates a preferred point of discharge, safely guiding high-voltage energy into the ground. Key ComponentsA complete ESE lightning protection system typically includes: ESE Air Terminal: The topmost unit containing the ionization/triggering system. Mounting Mast: A mechanically strong rod (often GI or stainless steel) that supports the terminal at the highest point of the structure. Down Conductor: A low-impedance cable (typically copper or GI) that carries current from the terminal to the earthing system. Earthing System: Specialized electrodes (like chemical earthing) designed to dissipate electrical energy safely into the earth. Lightning Strike Counter (Optional): An analog or digital device to track the number of times the system has intercepted a strike.
