Which best describes a flexographic printing plate? A relief plate. In what way are flexographic plates unique? They are soft flexible raised image printing plates made from either rubber or photopolymer.In the photogravure or rotogravure (rotary photogravure) process, a negative image is etched into the surface of a copper printing cylinder in tiny cells and dots of various sizes and various depths. These constitute the type characters and artwork with its tonal gradations.Flexography or “Flexo” was first patented by Bibby, Baron and Sons in Liverpool, England in 1890. It was the first known printing method to utilize a flexible printing plate, rather than the standard rigid metal plates used in offset presses.
