A flexo press uses flexible photo polymer printing plates to imprint images across a wide range of surfaces, making it one of the most efficient methods for large volume requirements. Used widely for labels and packaging - flexo printing is reliable and provides consistently high quality print results at the same time.The ink is applied to the plated images. The substrate is then pressed against the plate, with an impression cylinder applying appropriate pressure, to transfer the image onto the surface. A series of UV lamps or IR dryers dry the ink prior to the next process.The flexo process enables the use of a range of different ink viscosity, allowing specialist inks to be used for applications such as security print, light-fast outdoor labelling, fluorescent & metallic effects, etc. There is also the availability of food-grade ink for food packages and environmentally friendly lexicography, form of rotary printing in which ink is applied to various surfaces by means of flexible rubber (or other Elastoplast) printing plates. The inks used in flexography dry quickly by evaporation and are safe for use on wrappers that come directly in contact with foods. Related Topics: letterpress printing.
