These automated facilities employ a multi-stage process to ensure quality and efficiency. First, pea pods are separated from the peas themselves using a de-podder machine. The peas are then thoroughly washed and may undergo a blanching step with hot water to deactivate enzymes and preserve color. Afterward, optional size grading and inspection steps can be incorporated. Finally, depending on the desired end product (frozen peas, canned peas, etc.), the peas are subjected to further processing steps like blanching, filling, sealing, and sterilization.
