A DC, inverter-driven Variable Refrigerant System connects up to 9 individual Indoor Units that can be highwalled, ducted, cassette or console VRF systems include two major components, a compressor with outdoor coil and multiple indoor fan coil units. The outdoor unit houses the compressor which acts as a pump pushing refrigerant through piping to the indoor coils and back.Variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems vary the flow of refrigerant to indoor units based on demand. This ability to control the amount of refrigerant that is provided to fan coil units located throughout a building makes the VRF technology ideal for applications with varying loads or where zoning is required.A VRF system typically works better in a commercial building structure with more square footage. Split AC units are ductless systems used more often in residential settings. You may also consider that a VRF system with heat recovery can simultaneously heat and cool different parts of a building.
