HARDTUFF™ Wear Plate – Detailed Description HARDTUFF™ Wear Plate is a premium abrasion-resistant steel plate designed to provide long service life in applications exposed to severe wear, abrasion, erosion, and moderate impact. Manufactured by Chhajed Steel Ltd., the HARDTUFF product range includes SSWP 400, 450, 500, and 550 BHN wear plates as well as Chromium Carbide Overlay (CCO) plates for more demanding conditions. These plates are widely used in mining, cement, steel, power generation, quarrying, recycling, and bulk material handling industries. Product Features High abrasion and wear resistance. Excellent hardness with good toughness. Long service life compared with conventional carbon steel. Good weldability using suitable welding procedures. Can be cut, drilled, machined, and bent with appropriate fabrication practices. Available in multiple hardness grades (400, 450, 500, and 550 BHN) to suit different operating conditions. Suitable for severe sliding wear, impact wear, and erosion applications. Types of HARDTUFF Plates 1. HARDTUFF SSWP Wear Plates Through-hardened, quenched and tempered steel plates. Available in: SSWP 400 (≈400 BHN) SSWP 450 (≈450 BHN) SSWP 500 (≈500 BHN) SSWP 550 (≈550 BHN) Best suited for high-impact and abrasive environments. 2. HARDTUFF Chromium Carbide Overlay (CCO) Plates Composite plates with a mild steel base and a chromium carbide overlay. Extremely high wear resistance (typically 58–65 HRC overlay hardness). Designed for severe sliding abrasion with low to moderate impact. Suitable for applications involving sand, coal, clinker, limestone, ore, ash, and minerals. Typical Properties The exact values depend on the grade, but typical characteristics include: Hardness: 400–550 BHN (SSWP series) High tensile and yield strength Excellent abrasion resistance Good impact toughness Thickness range generally 3–100 mm for SSWP plates.
