These pollutants include particulates and gases that would be harmful to the environment and human health.Scrubbers are an apparatus that cleans the gases passing through the smokestack of a coal-burning power plant. Due to Clean Air Act regulations, most scrubbers in U.S. coal plants are used to remove sulfur emissions from coal and lessen the formation of acid rain.Scrubbers are air pollution control devices that use liquid to remove particulate matter or gases from an industrial exhaust or flue gas stream. This atomized liquid (typically water) entrains particles and pollutant gases in order to effectively wash them out of the gas flow.Generally, scrubbers are known for their function of “scrubbing” unwanted particles that find their way into the gas stream. Wet Scrubbers are found in chemical plants, acid manufacturing plants and steel making plants, amongst others.
