Given the right carrier, overhead conveyors can move virtually any kind of material and are only held back by their mechanical properties and drive limitations. They are especially useful for painting parts and are commonly seen in the automotive industry but note that these conveyors are used in most assembly lines.How Overhead Conveyors Work. Overhead conveyors free up valuable floor space by moving conveying systems up above work areas. A continuous track is suspended either from overhead supports and pendants are placed on the track that can hold product to be conveyed.There are a multitude of conveyor types, designs, and processes. The most common types are belt, roller, and overhead with overhead and floor mounted being the two broad categories.A overhead chain conveyor is a closed system with a Roller chain running inside a steel rail. Loads hang directly from the suspension points on the chain.Trolley Conveyor is a series of trolleys with loads suspended from them, supported by an overhead track and connected by an endless propelling medium such as chain or cable. The trolley conveyor chain is used to carry goods hung under the ceiling.AC induction motors are ideal for conveyor systems that operate continuously in one direction. For conveyor systems where the load must be held in place or for vertical applications, there are a wide range of AC motors with power-off activated electromagnetic brake.Speed Switch Sensors used to provide alarms when conveyor system belts break, slip, or stop moving unexpectedly. Ferrous Metal Proximity Sensors are used to inspect for steel components in aluminium assemblies. They are also used to track position, gap, and alignment between moving components in production lines.Generally, conveyor belts are made from a rubber or plastic compound combined with one or more layers of fabric material or different diameters of steel cables. A conveyor belt may be made from polyvinyl chloride and fabric such as polyester or styrene-butadiene rubber and several layers of polyester or nylon fabric.
