There are three basic types: flexible hones, hand hones, and honing sticks or tools.Honing the edge of a cutting tool has benefits, including improved tool life, improved workpiece surface finish, reduced spindle load and reduced overall manufacturing cost. Honing machines are classified as vertical or horizontal according to the main spindle arrangement. The operating range of vertical machines generally covers workpieces or bores with diameters smaller than 1.5 m (starting from Ø = 0.6 mm) and bore lengths of up to 5 m.
