A machine in which great force with slow motion is communicated to a large plunger by means of liquid force into the cylinder in which it moves by a piston pump of small diameter to which the power is applied.A hydraulic press is a machine press using a hydraulic cylinder to generate a compressive force. It uses the hydraulic equivalent of a mechanical lever, and was also known as a Bramah press after the inventor, Joseph Bramah, of England. He invented and was issued a patent on this press in 1795.A hydraulic press is made up of two interconnected cylinders. Each cylinder is filled with hydraulic fluid, and one is bigger than the other. The bigger cylinder is referred to as the Ram, while the smaller one is referred to as the Plunger.
