Surface grinding is used to produce a smooth finish on flat surfaces. It is a widely used abrasive machining process in which a spinning wheel covered in rough particles (grinding wheel) cuts chips of metallic or nonmetallic substance from a work-piece, making a face of it flat or smooth.Grinding is very common in mineral processing plants and the cement industry. Grinding is used to finish workpieces that must show high surface quality and high accuracy of shape and dimension. It has some roughing applications in which grinding removes high volumes of metal very rapidly.There are three basic types of surface grinders: horizontal-spindle, vertical-spindle, single disc grinders and double-disc grinders.
