Lamco high-voltage lightning arresters for 66kV, 132kV, and 220kV systems are gapless metal-oxide surge arresters (MOSA) designed to protect substation equipment, such as power transformers, from atmospheric lightning and internal switching surges. Core Technology & Working Principle Material: The heart of the arrester consists of a vertical stack of Zinc Oxide (ZnO) varistor discs. Non-linear Performance: Under normal operating conditions, these discs act as insulators with very high resistance, allowing only minimal leakage current (micro-amperes). Surge Response: When an over-voltage surge occurs (lightning or switching), the ZnO discs instantly transition to a low-resistance state, providing a direct path to ground. This "clamping" action limits the voltage to a safe residual level to prevent insulation breakdown in connected equipment.
