A Metal Tube Rotameter is a type of variable area flow meter used to measure the flow rate of liquids, gases, or steam in a closed pipeline. It operates on the principle of a float rising in a tapered tube as flow increases. Key Features: Material: Made with a metallic tapered tube (typically stainless steel), making it suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature applications. Float: A metallic float moves vertically with flow changes. Flow Indication: Measured via magnetic coupling to an external indicator, since the tube is opaque. Reading: Typically includes a local analog dial or digital transmitter output (4-20 mA). Advantages: Suitable for corrosive, high-pressure, or high-temperature fluids No external power needed for local indication Good for hazardous or explosive environments Can include alarm switches or totalizers Applications: Chemical processing Oil and gas Water treatment Pharmaceuticals Food & beverage industries Limitations: Requires vertical installation Accuracy typically ranges from ±1% to ±2% of full scale Not suitable for very low flow rates or opaque fluids in glass models (metal tube models solve this)
