Cyclone dust collectors are a type of inertial separator that make use of centrifugal, gravitational, and-or inertial forces that separate dust from the airstream. The dust and particle-laden air or gas enters the cylindrical chamber tangentially at one or more points and leaves through a central opening.In general, cyclones are used to collect particles greater than 10 micrometers in diameter and are sometimes referred to as "pre-cleaners", because they are often used to reduce the inlet loading of particulate matter to downstream collection devices by removing larger, abrasive particles.Cyclone dust collectors operate via centrifugal force. Dusty air enters a scroll type inlet and rapidly forms a cyclonic motion. The subsequent vortex within the dust collection chamber separates dust particulate from the air stream by throwing it towards the outer housing walls.
