The fabric roof weighs one fifth of a metal deck - yet wind tunnel tests show it survives cyclone gusts. Spectators sit in shade that can feel ten degrees cooler as well as rain stays outside the seating bowl. The roof needs hosing twice a year and a fabric check every five years - repair crews swap single fabric panels instead of the whole roof. Factories in Gujarat build each bay, box it or ship it by road. Every joint repeats the same bolt size so local crews tighten one spanner and finish the build.
