An edge bander is used to permanently fix a prepared moulding to board, for example, kitchen benches or cabinets.The process of covering the raw edges of wood panels with edging is called edge banding. The narrow strips are often referred to as simply “edging tapes”. In a commercial environment, edge banding is completed using industry-grade machines called edge banders and using a hot-melt adhesive.Pre-milling consists of two counter-rotating cutterheads which are designed to mill the edge of the panel prior to applying the edge banding material. The cutterheads are set up to mill a specific amount of material and remove any imperfections or chipping left from the saw or router during the cutting process.How Is Edge Banding Applied? Essentially, an edge band is a thin strip of impermeable PVC that is cut to fit the size of a wood panel. It is then applied to the raw edge using a strong adhesive. A heat roller is then used to melt the adhesive and glue the edge band over the wood.
