Bio RemeTM Nutrient Remover consists of a wide variety naturally selected Aerobic bacterial consortium which is used to degrade Nutrients (Ammonia, Nitrogen, Phosphorus) and various other organic compounds. Ammonia forms when urease enzymes produced by various microbial strains, when they contact urea and uric acid from animal urine and water. Ammonia is also produced when proteins are degraded first to amino acids and then to ammonia. Ammonia, Nitrogen and phosphorus are essential to the growth of microorganism, plants, and animals, so that, they are known as major nutrients. They are the primary causes of eutrophication within surface waters. The negative sign of eutrophication is represented by low dissolved oxygen, fish kills, and depletion of desirable flora and fauna. Excessive amounts of these nutrients can also stimulate the activity of microbes, such as which can be potentially harmful to human health. Hence, the removal of nutrient before discharging treated wastewater is desirable not only to prevent eutrophication, but for reuses purposes.
Effect on BOD & COD BioReme denitrifying bacteria are also capable of heterotrophic ammonia oxidation to nitrite. These species can be found in BioReme Nutrient Remover These formulas do NOT replace true nitrifiers, but can augment performance in applications which prohibit the use of true nitrifiers, due to lower oxygen level, acidic pH range or levels of BOD and COD above 200 mg/L. BioReme product useful when conditions prohibit the use of true nitrifiers to inhibit the enzyme urease from turning urine into ammonia, while it provides Bacill. to utilize ammonia via both heterotrophic and chemotrophic pathways, depending on the level of BOD, COD, ammonia and dissolved oxygen present. BioReme is often applied together with various saprophytic heterotrophic microbial formulas designed to sufficiently degrade BOD, COD and specific pollutants that dissolved oxygen levels rise to a level where nitrifiers can survive to eliminate excessive ammonia that was not needed by the heterotrophs to balance high levels of organic carbon pollutants. The treatments applied in lakes, ponds, rivers and streams will usually be different from those selected for industrial and municipal wastewater.
