Hydraulic motors are powered by pressurized hydraulic fluid and transfer rotational kinetic energy to mechanical devices. Hydraulic motors, when powered by a mechanical source, can rotate in the reverse direction, and act as a pump. Hydraulic rotary actuators use pressurized fluid to rotate mechanical components.A hydraulic motor converts hydraulic energy into mechanical energy; a rotating shaft. It uses hydraulic pressure and flows to generate the required torque and rotation.The hydraulic system works on the principle of Pascal's law which says that the pressure in an enclosed fluid is uniform in all the directions. The Pascal's law is illustrated in the figure. The force given by fluid is given by the multiplication of pressure and area of cross-section.
