Orbital forming and riveting is a cold forming process using a peen tool held at a fixed angle to create a sweeping line of pressure around a rivet or tenon. This movement progressively collapses the rivet or tenon shank down onto the upper material with each rotation, permanently forming a rivet head in the process.Riveting machines apply rivets to materials in a wide variety of configurations, from manually operated handheld riveting guns to multi-head automated riveting tools that are electrically, pneumatically, or hydraulically actuated.The tooling path of radial riveting is quite larger than that of orbital riveting. It takes 13 rotations of fleurettes to complete one full 360 ° pass with radial riveting, whereas an orbital path only takes one. For this reason, the internal components between the two types of powerheads differ greatly.
