Polycrystalline also known as multi-crystalline or many-crystal solar panels are also made from pure silicon. However, unlike monocrystalline, they are made from many different silicon fragments instead of a single pure ingot.Just like monocrystalline solar cells, polycrystalline solar cells are made from silicon crystals. The difference is that, instead of being extruded as a single pure ingot, the silicon crystal cools and fragments on its own. These fragments are melted in an oven and formed into cubes which are cut into thin wafers.Monocrystalline solar cells are more efficient because they are cut from a single source of silicon. Polycrystalline solar cells are blended from multiple silicon sources and are slightly less efficient. Thin-film technology costs less than mono or poly panels, but is also less efficient.
