What "SikaShield 3 mm" Means SikaShield 3 mm refers to a 3 mm-thick bituminous (modified bitumen) waterproofing membrane from Sika's SikaShield range — there are several variants depending on surfacing and use. These are typically installed by torch-applying to a substrate and used to protect roofs, terraces, slabs, and other areas from water ingress. 🔥 Common Types of SikaShield 3 mm Membranes 🟩 SikaShield® P24 MG 3 mm APP modified bitumen sheet with mineral granule surface — decorative and UV stable. Reinforced with polyester fabric; flexible even at low temps. For use as a top roof waterproof layer (cap sheet). Tiles can even be placed directly on it once installed. 🟨 SikaShield® P24 S 3 mm APP modified bitumen with sand surface — ideal when you'll apply protective layers (tiles, ballast, gravel). Used under heavy protection layers or in multi-layer waterproofing systems. Suitable for balconies, roofs, decks, and wet areas. 🟦 SikaShield® P24 MG IN 3 mm Similar to the MG version but formulated for slightly better flexibility and long-term performance. Good water tightness with low water absorption. Can be used as exposed membrane or as top layer in multilayer systems. 💡 Key Properties Thickness: ~3 mm effective waterproofing layer. Material: APP-modified bitumen reinforced with non-woven polyester. Installation: Usually torch-applied — heat melts the underside film so it fully bonds to the surface. Flexibility: Designed to stay flexible even in cold conditions. Uses: Roofs (flat or slight slope), terraces and balconies, decks, slabs, wet areas — depending on variant. 📌 Where It's Used 👉 Exposed roofing: P24 MG with granules resists UV and weather. 👉 Protected roofing or under tiles/gravel: P24 S with sand surface. 👉 Multi-layer waterproofing systems: As a base or cap sheet. 🛠️ Installation Notes Surface should be clean and suitable for torching. Overlaps are welded (heated) to create a continuous waterproof layer. Always follow Sika's method statement and safety guidelines for torch application
