A poppet damper is a heavy-duty, fast-acting industrial valve designed to control, divert, or completely isolate the flow of gases, air, and particulate-laden flue media within ductwork systems. Operating via linear movement rather than rotational blades, it utilizes a disc- or cone-shaped plate (the poppet) that moves perpendicular to a machined valve seat to provide rapid cycling and zero-leakage isolation.Unlike multi-louver or butterfly dampers that rotate on an axis, a poppet damper relies on a rigid, single-axis assembly:• Poppet Plate / Disc: A circular, square, or rectangular heavy-gauge metal plate that serves as the primary barrier blocking the gas path.• Central Drive Shaft (Spindle): A heavy-duty linear stem connected to the center of the poppet plate. It features anti-rotation guides to ensure the disc repeatedly seals in the exact same orientation without drifting.Machined Sealing Seat: A highly precise, reinforced landing ring built into the duct housing. It is often paired with specialized flexible or metal-to-metal seals to ensure a 99.95% to 100% leak-proof seal.Actuation System: The damper is driven linearly by an external pneumatic cylinder, hydraulic ram, or electric actuator capable of handling high-frequency cycling.
