Nowadays, it's clear that exposure to irreparable crystalline silica during sandblasting can cause a serious or even fatal respiratory disease, called Silicosis, a scarring and hardening of the lungs. In most countries, it is now forbidden to use abrasives which contain more than 1% free silica.The national average ranges between $3,000 and $7,500 for 1,500 square feet, with most homeowners spending around $5,250 to lightly sandblast 1,500 square feet using soda or aluminium oxide.Using sandblasting for cleaning applications can be effective, but it's also dangerous, not environmentally friendly, and difficult to clean up. Laser cleaning, on the other hand, provides a safer, less-damaging alternative to sandblasting.Abrasive blasting with sands containing crystalline silica can cause serious or fatal respiratory disease. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) requests assistance in preventing silicosis and deaths in workers exposed to irreparable crystalline silica during sandblasting.
