Pneumatic shockwave therapy (also known as radial shockwave therapy or radial pressure wave therapy) is a non-invasive treatment that uses compressed air (pneumatic energy) to generate mechanical shockwaves. These waves are transmitted into the body tissues to stimulate healing, reduce pain, and restore mobility in musculoskeletal conditions. ⸻ 🔹 How It Works • A compressor inside the shockwave device accelerates a projectile (bullet) within a handpiece using compressed air (pneumatic force). • The projectile strikes a transmitter (applicator head), producing radial pressure waves that penetrate into the tissues. • These mechanical impulses cause: • Microtrauma → stimulates local blood flow and metabolism • Release of growth factors → promotes tissue regeneration • Pain modulation via nerve desensitization • Breakdown of calcifications and fibrotic tissue
