It is commonly used as a loose-fill in attics or as an aggregate in lightweight concrete for roof screeds, reducing thermal conductivity and energy consumption. Important Safety Warning: Older, loose-fill vermiculite insulation (particularly from the Libby, Montana mine, popular in the U.S. before the 1990s) may be contaminated with asbestos.
