This sandstone is a sedimentary rock composed mostly of quartz sand. Red Sandstone Tiles is quarried from the ranges of Agra City, famous in the world for the Taj Mahal. Therefore, the other name of this tile is Agra Red Sandstone Tiles. The color of this sandstone tile is red because of the inclusion of iron oxide.Today, matching belts of sedimentary rock, known as the Old Red Sandstone, are found in Scandinavia, the United Kingdom, and eastern North America.Over time, the small quantities of iron-rich minerals in the sand break down and the iron is oxidized into hematite crystals (Fe2O3) that form as very thin paint-like coating on the quartz sand grains. The hematite crystals absorb all light colors except red which they reflect, giving the sandstones their red color.
