A slump cone with tamping rod is a tool used in the construction industry to measure the consistency and workability of fresh concrete. It consists of a funnel-shaped cone with a top diameter of 4 inches, a bottom diameter of 8 inches, and a height of 12 inches, made of durable metal or plastic. The cone is placed on a smooth, flat surface, and fresh concrete is poured into it. The concrete is then tamped with a steel tamping rod to remove any air pockets and to compact the concrete. The cone is carefully lifted, and the degree of slump, or deformation of the concrete, is measured with a ruler. This information helps contractors ensure that the concrete they are working with has the right consistency for their specific application.
