Waterless urinals, on the other hand, have no flushing action and are designed to dry out between uses, so they can't release contamination in this wayWaterless urinals all use basically the same science. Urine flows down the bowl of the urinal past a debris-catching strainer. The urine then passes through a sealing liquid, usually a specially designed oil based fluid or simply vegetable oil, and collects in the waste pipe below.Waterless, or no-flush urinals, may help mitigate these effects and offer other advantages, including lower utility charges, improved restroom hygiene, and decreased fixture maintenance.Typically, waterless urinal bodies are constructed of vitreous china or porcelain, similar to standard flush urinals. Most waterless units use a liquid sealer and rely on a density differential between the sealant and the liquid waste. The sealant is less dense than water or urine, which pass through the sealant.A urinal is a container used to collect urine. It is shaped to fit either a man or a woman. But some women might find it easier to use a bedpan.Solid waste is collected in a small discrete compost chamber directly beneath the toilet pedestal. A low powered 12 volt or alternatively 240 volt electric fan continually circulates air through the chamber speeding the composting process and eliminating odours.
